Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme

Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme

Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is an energy assessment for large businesses, charities and other organisations to identify the key areas for improvement, it was introduced to help compliance with the EU Energy Efficiency Directive. Running alongside of other energy initiatives to help businesses become more energy efficient; including Electricity Demand Reduction and Enhanced Capital Allowances for energy-saving equipment and technology.

An ESOS assessment involves:

  • produce a cost effective way to lower carbon emissions
  • cuts energy charges
  • increases competitiveness
  • improves energy efficiency
  • reduces energy consumption
ESOS Accredited

Businesses could save thousands of pounds by cutting the amount of energy they waste and improving their energy efficiency. £15,000 per year in ESOS energy efficiency measures can see savings of approximately £56,400 per year through reduced energy consumption and waste, thus limiting the penalties paid out each year.

Companies that are already benefiting from the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, or carbon schemes, are entitled to the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme.

There is no legal requirement to undertake or invest in the measures outlined in the energy assessment. It will help businesses who monitor their energy consumption to improve, businesses that don’t could find the scheme an administrative challenge.
